Abebe Asefa (PhD), Director for the Office of Community Services in AAU, officially launched the tree planting program and expressed his gratitude for the campaign being held at the Satellite Campus where a number of Master’s and PhD scholars of the University have been produced.

According to Dr. Abebe, as the area where the planting campaign held is the property of the University, it will be properly cultivated and can be great research potential for the University; it will also be the focus for the community service by educating and scientifically shaping the local community.

Dr. Abebe further stated that as the area is the wealth of the University, it is vitally important to scientifically cultivate the valley and the natural forest as well as introducing modern agricultural activities like beekeeping in the future.

“Therefore, today we have brought about 400 indigenous trees to plant. We will continue to strengthen the work of replacing the trees in the campus with native trees as much as we can, and we will continue to work hard to preserve the beauty of the campus and the entire area,” Dr. Abebe finally said.

Coordinator of Butajra Satellite Campus, Mr. Abyot, appreciated the Community Services Office for its commitment to plant indigenous trees in the campus traveling far from Addis, and he promised that his staff will work tirelessly to extend the startup and achieve the intended goal.

Mr. Eyob Asfaw, Senior Community Service Expert at AAU Community Service Office said that it was being lucky to get the great opportunity for putting green footprint at the Satellite Campus.

“It is inevitable that we will come to this campus on various occasions to see the trees we have planted grown well and giving shade; we will be proud of the work what we have done, and get spiritual satisfaction when we see the society being benefited from our activity,” Eyob elaborated.

According to Mr. Eyob, various indigenous trees including Girar, Koso and other vegetations were planted at the Satellite Campus by workers from different departments of Addis Ababa University and more others working in the Campus.
