AAU College of Health Sciences Celebrates International Women’s Day
Addis Ababa University (AAU) College of Health Sciences (CHS) with the coordination of its Women, Children and Youth Office celebrated International Women’s Day, Mach 8, in collaboration with Women’s Health Research Working Group (WHRWG) at CHS Auditorium on March 8, 2022.
The College, in its event, marked the International Day with the theme of “Ensuring Gender Equality be a Voice for Women in Conflict”.
Dr. Workeabeba Abebe chairperson of WHRWG, on her welcoming address said that women from all sorts of life should come together to demand their rights, peace, justice, equality and progress. “This worldwide holiday celebrates women’s achievement in the field of social, economic, cultural, political and scientific endeavors,” she added.
According to Dr. Workeabeba, the Day is celebrated not only to recognize the accomplishment but also to reaffirm citizens’ commitment to closing gender gaps in all aspects of life.
“While there are still a number of disparities and challenges to overcome, we believe that female academicians at AAU should continue to strive for a big change and make significant contributions to minimize gender inequality through research,” she confirmed.
Sewalem Tsega (PhD), Gender and HIV Office Director, in her presentation said, Gender and HIV Office of AAU has an objective of enhancing the Women’s equality and equity both at the University and the Country levels.
Bezawit Ketema, member of the WHRWG, mentioned as her research finding that women academicians, whether senior or young ones, often lack the courage of doing many research publications due to home-made commitments.
As the staff reporter observed, blood donation activity was intensively held at Black Lion Specialized Hospital with the participation of many scholars and the University’s higher female officials that attended the March 8 event.
