A350-1000 Arrival Highlights Ethiopian Airlines’ Global Ambitions: CEO.
Addis Ababa: The addition of the Airbus A350-1000 signifies Ethiopian Airlines’ ambition to lead the African aviation industry and compete globally, as stated by Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew. Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, welcomed the continent’s first Airbus A350-1000 at Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, amid a grand ceremony attended by government officials, ambassadors, diplomats, and representatives from Airbus and Thales. The aircraft’s arrival was marked by a ceremonial water cannon salute.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Group CEO Mesfin Tasew hailed the inclusion of the A350-1000 in their fleet as a historic milestone for both Ethiopian Airlines and Africa. “We are thrilled to welcome the Airbus A350-1000 to our fleet, solidifying our position as leaders in aviation technology,” he said, highlighting the aircraft’s superior passenger comfort, enhanced fuel efficiency, and reduced environmental impact. Mesfin emphasized that Ethiopian Airlines is at the forefron
t of aviation advancements, and this addition reaffirms its leadership status in the industry.
The state-of-the-art aerodynamics of the new aircraft features a 25% reduction in fuel burn and carbon dioxide emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft, aligning with Ethiopian Airlines’ sustainability goals. This commitment to the environment is part of the airline’s broader strategy to provide exceptional services while minimizing environmental impact. The CEO also noted that the new aircraft will enhance travel experiences with cutting-edge flight entertainment systems, meeting the increasing demand from the airline’s global network.
Lieutenant General Yilma Merdasa, Ethiopian Air Force Commander and Chairperson of the Ethiopian Airlines Group Management Board, remarked that the A350-1000’s arrival marks significant progress and unity for Ethiopians and Africans. Ethiopian Airlines, he stated, serves as a bridge across Africa, connecting people and supporting economic activities such as exports, impor
ts, tourism, and employment.
Vice President of Commercial Africa for Airbus, Hadi Akoum, celebrated the delivery, stating that the A350-1000 is the largest twin-engine aircraft acquired in Africa, illustrating Ethiopian Airlines’ growth ambitions as a flagship carrier. He reiterated Airbus’s commitment to partnering with Ethiopian Airlines as it continues setting standards in African aviation.
Ethiopian Airlines also announced plans to welcome three additional A350-1000 aircraft in the coming months, further modernizing its fleet and enhancing its commitment to passenger excellence.
