A Standing Committee from the House of People’s Representatives of the FDRE Pays a Visit to AAU

The Standing Committee on Human Resource Development, Employment and Technology Affairs of the FDRE House of People’s Representatives made a field visit to Addis Ababa University (AAU) and detected the mission and basic issues of the University at Office of the President on November 7, 2022.

The Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Negeri Lencho (PhD), said that the Committee will make an evaluative observation regarding the commencement of the teaching and learning, research and the community engagement activities of the University.

Dr. Negeri Lencho said that another major mission of the Standing Committee is to verify the institution’s determination to maintain the quality of education and service delivery in the Institution.

The Chairman of the Standing Committee also explained that it is a big issue for the standing committee to properly investigate whether the prepared plan of the University considers its way to be an autonomous university.

The standing committee will detect whether the university management board’s relationship is relevant with the university and the major works done this year, the gender, young people, ethnic and disabled composition of the university leadership.”

The Committee will also investigate the institution’s efforts to enhance the quality of education, the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process, and the increase to the employment rate of graduates,” Dr. Negeri stated.

The Standing Committee added that it will properly check and verify the effectiveness of the institution’s community service delivery and university-industry linkages regarding the implementation of problem-solving research and research activities supported by the budget.

The standing committee further said that it will investigate whether the University provides special support to students with disabilities and students from developing regions and pastoral areas, empowering women and bringing them into leadership positions, and creating suitable workplaces for female researchers.
